Botox injection therapy for powerful pain relief.
Muscle spasms in the back and neck can cause
twisted, constant pain. Often these spasms can be debilitating,
such as what is seen with torticollis, a painful neuromuscular
disorder where the muscles that control the position of the head
contract involuntarily and cause the head to turn or twist to one
side. Other causes include head injury, spinal cord injury and
trigger points that respond only temporarily to injection therapy.
We are specially trained to administer Botox therapy to reduce
the muscle tension experienced with chronic, painful muscle spasms
of the neck and back (dystonia). With Botox therapy, our doctors
will first pinpoint the location of your pain and then inject the
specific muscles that are the cause of your pain with Botox. By
blocking the offending muscle’s ability to contract or shorten,
there is a reduction in tension and a subsequent relief of pain.
Botox therapy can also help with posture and walking and allow
a more extensive range of motion.
While Botox is an effective therapy
for chronic pain, it is also safe because the protein that is used
to make Botox is very diluted and precisely placed in the muscle
where it is needed.
We will see you for Botox therapy treatments about every three
months. Drs. Michaels and Tibiletti will monitor you during treatment
to measure the amount of relief you experience and adjust your
therapy as needed.
We also use Botox to treat recalcitrant, or stubborn, headaches,
with repeat doses as needed by the patient.
If you are experiencing
headaches or painful spasms in your back or neck, Botox therapy
might help you. Please ask
Dr. Tibiletti, Dr. Michaels or any of our professional team how
we can help you.
Expert solutions for muscle, nerve & joint pain.
When you have pain in the arms and legs due to pinched nerves and
muscle spasms, you may find yourself out of the game… work… and
life. We can help pinpoint where your pain is coming from in a variety
of situations and create a custom relief solution to bring you back
to a livable level of comfort.
Dr. Claire Tibiletti and Dr. James Michaels, are dedicated to the
field of interventional pain medicine and utilized the latest and
most effective pain treatments. Your pain deserves nothing less than
our experienced care and effective treatment methods.
Your hand has a fibrous band that supports the wrist. The area between
this band and your wrist bone is the carpal tunnel. Repetitive motions
can cause swelling that irritates the median nerve, which runs down
your arm and into the hand via the carpal tunnel. The results can
be painful and include numbness, tingling and shooting pains in the
arm and hand. Though often corrected by surgery, carpal tunnel problems
respond well to steroid injections, thus helping the patient avoid
invasive surgery.
Hip pain can be caused by degenerative osteoarthritis, bursitis or
injuries. Knee pain can be caused by arthritis, hyperextension or
hyperflexion and trauma from work, sports or overuse. Hips and knees
are sites of multiple injuries and inflammatory conditions that lend
themselves to therapeutic injections. We may inject hyaluronic acid
(e.g. Synvisc®, Euflexxa®). Cortisone injections vary depending
on preference and are often injected simultaneously with Novocaine®.
The sacroiliac facet joints are large joints in the low back and
buttocks area where the pelvis joins with the spine. These joints
may cause pain in the low back, buttocks, abdomen, groin or legs.
A sacroiliac joint injection may result in immediate pain relief.
The relief provided may make it easier for a physical therapist or
chiropractor to treat the joint. Time-release cortisone helps reduce
inflammation in the joint(s).
Behavioral therapy is sometimes beneficial to patients who need help
managing their pain. We refer those patients to a specially trained
counselor who can help them bring about positive behavior modification
to better cope with their pain and the problems it brings to their
lives.
Physical therapy can be used in conjunction with pain relief modalities
to help you regain range of motion in your body. Our doctors will
refer you to area physical therapists they know and trust and always
stay integrated in your care.
The type of treatment you receive will
be determined after Dr. Michaels or Dr. Tibiletti thoroughly assesses
your health history and current condition. We want you to have
the pain relief you deserve so you can get on with life.
If you
are experiencing pain in the lower back, hands, wrists, hips or knees,

Targeting the cause of low back pain.
Low back pain is a very common occurrence that involves roughly
80 percent of our population. However, many people who have experienced
at least one episode of back pain will continue to experience persistent
or recurrent back pain. And while some people feel their low back
pain simply as soreness, you may experience it as severely debilitating
pain that affects your lifestyle.
Our unique approach to managing
your pain is based on medical and scientific principles and treatment.
Dr. Claire Tibiletti and Dr. James Michaels are dedicated to the
field of interventional pain medicine and have utilized the latest
and most effective pain treatments known. Your chronic low back pain
is too serious a medical problem to rely on anything less than our
expert evaluation, effective treatment and empathetic care.
Because low back pain has several individual
causes, each of our patients must be treated differently. A particularly
effective way to alleviate chronic low back pain is to block or numb
pain pathways. This is accomplished through a variety of innovative
treatments:
Epidural injections place anti-inflammatory medicine into the epidural
space of the spine to decrease inflammation of the nerve roots, thereby
reducing pain in the back or legs. They may also help heal injury
by reducing inflammation.
Facet joints are the joints between vertebrae; each facet joint is
supplied by two nerves. A facet joint block is performed by injecting
into the joint or injecting close to the nerves supplying the joint.
This injection can block the nerves, thereby relieving pain. Facet
neurotomy is a procedure which interrupts the nerve supply to a facet
joint. Interruption or denervation is accomplished by a radiofrequency
probe that heats the two small nerve branches serving each facet
joint.
A selective nerve root block can tell our doctors the cause of your
pain. It can also serve as a primary treatment in certain cases.
With this technique, our doctors place temporary numbing medicine
over the nerve root of concern. If your pain improves after the injection,
the targeted nerve is most likely causing the pain. If the pain remains
unchanged, that nerve is generally not the reason you are experiencing
pain, and our doctors will further investigate the cause until they
find it.
Behavioral therapy is sometimes beneficial to patients who need help
managing their pain. We refer those patients to a specially trained
counselor who can help them bring about positive behavior modification
to better cope
with their pain and the problems it brings to
their lives.
Botox injection therapy can effectively reduce the muscle tension
and pain experienced with chronic, painful muscle spasms of the neck
and back. It is also highly effective for pain relief in torticollis,
or wry neck. By injecting Botox into the specific muscles that are
causing the pain, there is a reduction of tension and subsequent
relief of pain.
Physical therapy can be used in conjunction with pain relief modalities
to help you regain range of motion in your body. Our doctors will
refer you to area physical therapists they know and trust and always
stay integrated in your care.
Through the use of these treatments, our doctors can help you effectively
manage your low back pain and get you back to a quality of life that
you love.
Innovative solutions for neck pain.
Your neck, also known as the cervical spine, is
composed of vertebrae that begin in the upper torso and end at the
base of your skull. There are bony vertebrae along with the ligaments
that provide stability to your spine, and your muscles allow for
support and motion. Your neck is capable of a significant amount
of motion and supports the weight of your head. However, because
your neck is less protected than the rest of the spine, it is vulnerable
to injury and painful disorders that can also restrict motion. And
while many people find neck pain a temporary situation, others will
need medical diagnosis and treatment to relieve their symptoms.
Additionally, chronic, painful headaches may be caused by conditions
of the neck and are known as cervicogenic headaches. Cervicogenic
headaches may be caused by constant tension or injury to the neck
as well as problems with the facet joints.
Dr. Claire Tibiletti and
Dr. James Michaels are experienced in interventional pain medicine,
which is a medical specialty that focuses on treating illnesses,
conditions or injuries that cause pain and limit function. They are
pioneers in the development of several effective pain treatments
in use by doctors today, which you will find here:
Epidural injections place anti-inflammatory medicine into the epidural
space of the spine to decrease inflammation of the nerve roots,
thereby reducing pain in the back or legs. They may also help heal
injury by reducing inflammation.
Facet joints are the joints between vertebrae, of which there are
two for each disc. Each facet joint is supplied by two nerves, which
can become pinched.
A facet joint block is performed by injecting into the joint or injecting
close to the nerves supplying the joint. This injection can block
the nerves, thereby relieving pain.
A selective nerve root block can not only tell our doctors where
the cause of your pain is located, it can also serve as a primary
treatment in certain cases. With this technique, our doctors place
temporary numbing medicine over the nerve root of concern. If your
pain improves after the injection, the targeted nerve is most likely
causing the pain. If the pain remains unchanged, that nerve is generally
not the reason you are experiencing pain, and our doctors will further
investigate the cause until they find it.

and pain experienced with chronic, painful muscle spasms of the neck
and back. It is also highly effective for pain relief in torticollis,
or wry neck. By injecting Botox into the specific muscles that are
causing the pain, there is a reduction of tension and subsequent
relief of pain.

Our goal is to minimize the amount of painful episodes you experience,
whether through corrective treatment or proactive pain management.
